Introduction

eduroam is the primary Wi-Fi network for the UC Berkeley campus community. In order to connect to eduroam, individuals must create a key, or password, that will be used in place of their normal CalNet passphrase.

NOTICE: Personal Windows and macOS computers and all iPhone, iPad, Android, ChromeOS, and Linux devices can seamlessly configure eduroam using the passwordless system. We recommend you try the passwordless system to remove the need to manage passwords. UC Berkeley-owned computers and other device types that require a username and password for access should continue with these instructions.

What types of accounts are supported on campus WiFi?

Visitors from other academic and research institutes who already have an eduroam account do not need to create a new one when visiting UC Berkeley. eduroam accounts are shared worldwide

This article covers the following topics:

Finding information about your eduroam account

You do not need to manually create an eduroam account. eduroam accounts are automatically generated nightly as well as when users log into the GetOnline site.

  1. Browse to the GetOnline website https://getonline.berkeley.edu/wifi/ and scroll to the eduroam account section.
    eduroam account information on GetOnline
  2. This section shows your eduroam username, your account status, and two methods of connecting to eduroam
    • User: is your CalNet ID followed by @berkeley.edu. This is not necessarily your email address.  In this example, the eduroam username is spa-oski-tech@berkeley.edu, but the account's email address is oski-tech@berkeley.edu. If your email address is different from your CalNet ID it will not work for eduroam.
    • Status: Active or Blocked. Blocked accounts have been disabled by the Information Security Office. Blocked accounts are not able to use eduroam until the suspension has been lifted. Please contact the Information Security Office for assistance in resolving the issue.
  3. Options for connecting to eduroam
    • Connect button starts the passwordless setup process. It is the recommended method of connecting to eduroam for personal Windows and macOS computers and all iPhone, iPad, Android, ChromeOS, and Linux devices.
    • Change eduroam Password button allows you to set of change your password for traditional username and password logins. Continue below for instructions.

Changing your WiFi Password

Warning: Changing your eduroam password will invalidate the old password.  All devices using your account will be disconnected and will need to be reconnected using the new password. Devices using the passwordless process will not be disconnected when the eduroam password is changed.

  1. Browse to the GetOnline website https://getonline.berkeley.edu/wifi/ and scroll to the eduroam account section.
    eduroam account information on GetOnline
  2. To change the password on an active account, click Change eduroam Password
    Change eduroam Password Window
  3. A Change Account Password window will open and prompt you to enter a new password, and then confirm it
    • The Save New Password button will be inactive until the password and new password match, and meet all of the UC Berkeley password requirements.
  4.  Click Save New Password. You will be briefly taken to a change completed page, and then redirected back to the Wi-Fi Keys main page
  5. Your new password will now be required for all eduroam username-based connections. Devices already connected may stay on the network for up to four hours, but will be disconnected if the password on them is not updated
