Introduction

RTL has upgraded the Kaltura media player available in bCourses and Mediaspace from the older V2 player to the new V7 player. You will find the v7 player wherever you view Kaltura media in Media Gallery and My Media. In addition, Kaltura media that has been embedded using the Rich Content Editor in bCourses content (Pages, Assignments, Quizzes, and Discussions) should automatically play back using (be redirected to) a v7 Player, regardless of how the videos were originally embedded. This includes any videos in content imported from older bCourses sites. (Automatic playback using the new player, however, will not necessarily work for audio-only embeds that were embedded under v2; see "Embedded Content changes" below.)

The functionality of the new V7 player is the essentially the same as that of the current V2 player (with a few new features), but the player interface  is different.

Embedded content changes

While the vast majority of Kaltura embeds in bCourses will play back using the v7 Player, we do advise, if you are an Instructor, Designer, or TA planning to reuse content from sites from previous semesters, that you check the content in those pages, and consider re-embedding the videos. Some things to be aware of:

For those responsible for content in bCourses course sites, we suggest, if you plan to reuse bCourses content with embedded Kaltura media for multiple semesters, that you consider re-embedding the content from scratch so that it is a true v7 embed, rather than a v2 embed being redirected to play with a v7 player. See our KB article “How do I embed Kaltura media in bCourses using the Rich Content Editor?” if you need a reminder for how to embed content.
