Visiting scholars, visiting student researchers, consultants or other guests to UC Berkeley can access the open wireless network, Berkeley-Visitor, for internet access from any Wi-Fi enabled device. Another option is if a visiting scholar's home school takes part in the eduroam program, they may use their home credentials to access the eduroam Wi-Fi network. For limited access to bCourses and a select few other campus services, they may also be provisioned with a CalNet Guest Account.
Before you begin
- Note that any visitor to UC Berkeley may access the open Wi-Fi network, Berkeley-Visitor.
- Note that CalNet Guest Accounts cannot access eduroam Wi-fi Network.
- Wi-Fi access via Berkeley-Visitor DOES NOT REQUIRE a CalNet Guest account nor any other provisioned access.
- A CalNet Guest account provides access to CalShare and bCourses.
To access Berkeley-Visitor
- When on campus, access available Wi-Fi networks from any applicable device.
- Select Berkeley-Visitor from the list of available Wi-Fi networks.
- Accept the UC Berkeley terms of service on the welcome page
- When on campus, access available wifi networks from any applicable device.
- Select Eduroam from the list of available wifi networks.
- Input one's home credentials as provided by that institution.
To obtain a CalNet Guest Account
- Contact a sponsoring staff or faculty member.
- Have them navigate to https://idc.berkeley.edu/guests/ and create an account as applicable
- Ask them to provide the credentials once created.
- Have the requisite bCourse or CalShare site grant access to this CalNet account.
