Starting on March 15, 2021 there will be a new Campus Access Badge available in the Berkeley Mobile App and in the Portal system.
The Campus Access badge is a consolidation of separate policies which govern whether you have approval to come to campus. This document outlines which policies apply to the different campus groups.
Policy | Description | Frequency | When does Portal get updated from the source system? |
Surveillance testing aka Campus Community Screening | Testing/screening for COVID-19 is required for students and faculty and staff who are on campus for work. | The PCR test is just once in 180 days if you are vaccinated | can take up to 90 minutes |
COVID Vaccine Policy |
Starting on July 15, 2021 with enforcement beginning on August 4, 2021, two weeks before the UC Berkeley fall term begins. Those who are not compliant with the COVID Vaccine policy will be required to do weekly COVID testing and wear a face covering or respirator while on campus and this is indicated in Portal by a Face Mask icon. |

can take up to 90 minutes. Note: A person is not considered compliant until 2 weeks after the 2nd dose. |
COVID Training |
COVID Training is mandatory for faculty and staff who need to come to UC facilities.

Daily Symptom Screener |
The Daily Symptom Screener certificate is necessary before stepping on campus. This must be taken every day. If you work at night, the flags are reset at midnight so you will need to take it again after midnight for the rest of your shift or talk to your supervisor for what works best for your situation. Note: The daily email reminder to take the daily symptom screener was discontinued in spring 2021. |

Expired policies:
- Flu Vaccination requirement for all members of the UC community to receive an influenza immunization before Nov. 17, 2020 . Verify Policy Compliance in Portal. This policy expired on April 30, 2021.
- Authorized Access is used to manage access to the campus facilities during the COVID pandemic for employees and other non-students who will be on-site at UC facilities. This policy has expired on June 15, 2021.
Once you become compliant, your badge status may not be updated immediately. Hover your mouse over the icon to see how long the delay is. For example:
- EH&S Training is updated every 24 hours
- COVID vaccine policy information can take up to 90 minutes, as the state moves through multiple campus systems.
- An odd state you may see in Portal is that all of your individual badges are green but your global access badge is red. The global access badge is set in the Data Lake and that can take up to 90 minutes to be set.
Affiliates will always see a red 'Campus Access' badge even if they comply with all policies. Affiliates, volunteers and guests should discuss their campus access with their campus contact before coming to campus.
If you feel that your badge status is incorrect, please contact the site that you are using to view your badge:

New hires who are entered into UC Path with a future-dated appointment can create their CalNet ID in advance of their first day of work, which will enable them to take the COVID test at UHS. HR partners need to enter the record into UC Path before the person is scheduled to start working. Also, a non-berkeley.edu email address is required for the user to create their CalNet ID, so make sure to include that in their UC Path record.
If you have any questions about the policies and whether they apply to you, please speak with your supervisor or student advisor or review the Working on Campus guidelines.
Who can see the campus access badges?
Anyone can see the Global Access Badge of anyone else. If the Global Campus Access Badge is red, any one of the pieces of information is not up to date or not compliant with campus policy. Campus Access does not include personal health information, only compliance or non-compliance with campus policy.
A person's direct supervisor has access to click on and view Campus Access detailed information for each policy, along with supervisors up the direct chain of command.
Can I delegate access in my department for one person to manage my direct reports or our department's Campus Access Status information?
