Sponsored Guest Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Common Questions
Q: I never received an invitation email!
A: Contact your sponsor to determine whether the invitation was sent and verify the email address they used.
Q: I clicked the link to log in with Google to accept my guest invitation, but there's no Google login button.
A: Check that your browser does not have pop-up blockers or plugins preventing the button from displaying. If the problem persists, copy the invitation link and paste it into a different web browser.
Q: How do I get a sponsored guest account?
A: You must be sponsored by a current campus employee. If you are collaborating on a project, contact your campus partner. If you are auditing a class, contact the professor for help.
Q: Can CalNet staff sponsor a guest account for me?
A: No. CalNet employees are only permitted to create guest accounts for individuals they are directly collaborating with on a project.
Q: What if I don't know my password?
A: If you are using your Google Login, please review the Google support documentation. If you are using Other Login, see the Sponsored Guest User Guide (KB0015298) for instructions.
Q: I got an error when I tried to log in to a campus application: "This app is not authorized to use CAS"
A: If you have just activated your account, wait 5–10 minutes and try again. If you have successfully logged in to other applications recently, contact the service provider for the specific application you are trying to access.
Q: I do not see the "Sponsored Guest Sign In" link on the login page.
A: Only applications that specifically allow sponsored guests will display this link. Contact your sponsor to verify the correct login URL. If they believe the app should allow guests, they must contact the application owner to request the feature be enabled.
Q: Where do I log in?
A: Contact your sponsor for the specific URL of the application you need to access. If you are trying to log in to bCourses, you can log in here.
Q: How does a guest access campus Wi-Fi?
A: For information on accessing Wi-Fi services, please see: Campus Wi-Fi Instructions (KB0010264).
Q: My guest account expired — what do I do?
A: Guest accounts can be easily extended or reinstated by your sponsor. Please ask your sponsor to update your account expiration. You can provide them with the Sponsor Management Guide (KB0015652) if they need instructions.
