Updating a Composite Group in CalGroups
As official campus groups change to match current department names and structures, you may need to periodically update your composite groups to ensure your access control lists remain accurate.
1. Locate the Composite Group
Log in to calgroups.berkeley.edu. Use the search bar at the top of the dashboard to find the specific composite group you need to update. Once found, click the group name to open it.
2. Edit the Composite Logic
- In the upper-right corner of the group page, click the More Actions button.
- Select Edit Composite from the dropdown menu.
- On the "Edit group composite" screen, you will see three fields:
- First Factor Group: This is typically your Ad Hoc (manual) group. Leave this as is.
- Operation: (e.g., Intersection). Keep this the same.
- Second Factor Group: This is usually the Official campus group (e.g., a department-wide group). Change this to the new or updated official group.
3. Save and Verify
Click the Save button at the bottom of the form. Your composite group membership will immediately update to reflect the new logic.
Decommissioning Note: If the composite group is no longer part of any other groups or is no longer required for access control, you should evaluate if it is necessary to keep. To request a group deletion, follow the instructions in the User Guide.
