Can you combine/merge my course sites?

A knowledge base article about Can you combine/merge my course sites? provided by the UC Berkeley IT Service Hub - Knowledge Portal

This question of combining or merging course sites usually comes up in two different scenarios, outlined below.

Scenario A: Add course sections to one course site

Sometimes, instructors want to use one site but accidentally create multiple sites for each of their course sections for the same course. There isn’t a function that "merges" course sites. In this scenario, instructors need to add all of the section rosters into one site, and then delete the extraneous site(s).

  1. Identify which course site you want to use for the course.
  2. On your bCourses Dashboard, select the Create & Manage Sites tool.
  3. Select the "Manage official sections of an existing site" option.
  4. Select the course site you want to use for the course.
  5. Follow the instructions to add a section to your course site.
  6. After setting up the one site, send a request to bcourseshelp@berkeley.edu that includes the URL of the extraneous course sites that you would like deleted.

Scenario B: Combine separate courses into one course site

Another request to "merge" sites occurs when there are multiple teachers of different courses that want to use one bCourses site. In this case, one of the instructors first needs to create a course site with their roster, then add the other instructor(s), who would then add their rosters to the site using the Create & Manage Sites tool.

  1. Instructor A creates a site (for example, you create a site with your sections/rosters) using the instructions for How do I create a Course Site?
  2. Instructor A adds the instructors of the other classes to that site in the Teacher role using the instructions: How do I add users to my site?
  3. The other instructor(s) can then go into the Create & Manage Sites tool to add their rosters to the site using the instructions: How do I add or remove a section roster from my course site?
  4. (Optional) Rename the course site (so that it is easier for all students to find/identify), using the instructions here: How do I change a course name and course code?
