The steps below will guide you on connecting to eduroam secure wireless network at UC Berkeley using macOS devices. For a visual walkthrough example of the steps outlined here, see this video.
IMPORTANT: At this time the eduroam passwordless system is for BYOD, or bring your own device, computers. These are personal devices, not owned by the University of California Berkeley. If you have a UC Berkeley owned device, or do not have the admin password, please use a username and password to access eduroam.
Ensure you have some form of Wi-Fi or wired network connection
- Open your preferred web browser and go to the GetOnline passwordless confirmation page, you will be prompted to log in to CalNet if you have not already done so.
- Click Continue to open the enrollment site.
- Ensure that your device's system is detected as the correct MacOS version and select the button “Configure via dissolvable Agent”.
- Click “JoinNow” and an application will download.
- In Finder, locate and open WiFi_JoinNow_Wrapper.dmg and then double click the SecureW2 icon.
- If asked if you want to open, select “Open”.
- The application will open, then select “Next”.
- Log into CAS using your CalNet credentials and select “Sign In”. You may be prompted for Two-Factor authentication on your enrolled device.
- If asked, Wi-Fi_JoinNow_Wrapper wants to make changes, enter your computer login password and click “OK”.
- When the Profiles settings window in System Preferences opens, double click to review, then click install... and then click Install again.
- Select “Trust” for all prompts regarding certificates.
- Grant Access to Your Keychain
Keychain Access is a macOS app that stores your passwords and account information. It acts as a password manager, and eduroam needs access to your keychain so that it can store network login credentials. If you do not grant Keychain access, eduroam will ask you to log in each time you access the network.
Type in your keychain password, then click “Always Allow”. Your Keychain password will either be your computer password or your Apple ID password.
- The SecureW2 JoinNow app will now connect you to eduroam, if you are in range of the network. Click “Done”
