Campus departments may request a berkeley.edu hostname to point to a website built on an onsite hosting service. “Onsite” means that the hosting service is owned by UC Berkeley. Examples include the Windows data center hosting service or an on-premises server owned by a UC Berkeley academic department or research center. Below is a process summary, and a detailed process description.

Process Summary

  1. Choose an onsite hosting service.
  2. Create and build the website.
  3. Request the hostname via the DNS Administrator, and provide the DNS information.

Process Description

Requests for onsite hostnames may be submitted via email to dns@berkeley.edu, or via Telcat. Requests for hostnames in the berkeley.edu domain will be routed accordingly for additional vetting and approval.
