Self-Service Application (BigFix) and Perceptive Content Desktop Client Installation
If you have a Windows managed machine, you can now use the Self-Service application to install and configure the Perceptive Content Desktop Client (aka ImageNow Fat Client) with the click of a few buttons and without the need to submit a ticket request to the helpdesk (there's no need to request to have the install files either).
BigFix, the Self-Service application is found in the taskbar tray. [Note, if you already have Perceptive Content installed it will not appear in Self Service options.]
Double click on the “b” icon (which stands for and is powered by BigFix) to open the app:
Search for the Perceptive Content Desktop Client offer and Click Accept at the bottom.
Within 15-20 minutes, the application will be installed and ready for usage! Please be sure to wait for the installation to complete before trying to use Perceptive Content.
The client download is not needed anymore as users can simply use the self-service option from BigFix. This is the preferred method since using BigFix automatically installs the client updater which, in turn, allows for automatically "pushed out" updates. This functionality is lost when Perceptive Content is installed manually.
Uninstalling the Perceptive Content Client
Perceptive Content can now be uninstalled through BigFix.
Uninstalling the Perceptive Content Client Makes the Offer to Appear again in BigFix. If the client had been previously installed and it now has been removed the offer will show up again in BigFix. If it doesn't appear right away you can try to log off and back in again to the user's computer.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
PEDLauncher.exe (which is installed when the client is installed and is independent from BigFix) connects to the PEDS server to determine if the user is running the current version of the client. If a new version is available, it will automatically install the new version on the client machine regardless of what is offered in BigFix.
Self Managed Computers. If the computer is self managed the client would need to be manually installed. In this case reassign the ticket to the Imagine team
Troubleshooting. Installation is relatively easy as long as BigFix is working properly so not much troubleshooting is needed. Please contact the Imagine team for any scenarios not contemplated here or for questions.
