Software updates on Apple devices such as laptops and smartphones, especially on newer models (e.g. with M1/M2 chip), are known to create issues connecting to Wi-Fi for some users at numerous institutions of higher education. We know of two workarounds at this time that have made Wi-Fi more stable for some affected users:
- Disabling the Bluetooth on your device
- Setting AirDrop to “allow me to be discovered by: no one”
Step-by-step instructions for updating these settings can be found below:
- macOS Monterey (https://ucla.service-now.com/support?id=kb_article&sys_id=KB0013801)
- macOS Ventura (https://ucla.service-now.com/support?id=kb_article&sys_id=KB0013802)
- iOS/iPadOS (https://ucla.service-now.com/support?id=kb_article&sys_id=KB0013803)
