All users, including auditors, need a valid CalNet account in order to login to bCourses and be added to your course site(s).

For any person that does not have an active CalNet account, the instructor of the course will need to sponsor them for a CalNet Guest Account. They can be added to bCourses once their Sponsored Guest Account is created.

Step 1

Sponsor them for a CalNet Guest Account. See this guide to for instructions: CalNet Sponsored Guests Guide

Step 2

Auditor accepts their Guest Account invitation. You can view the invitation status on the Guest Invitation Service page.

Note: It may take up to six hours after your Sponsored Guest claims their account before you can add them to bCourses.

Step 3

Add them to your course site by UID in the Student role. See this help article for instructions: How do I add users to my course site?

FAQs

I found multiple guest accounts in bCourses. Which one is active?

Legacy guest accounts created prior to June 2019 may still appear in bCourses but are no longer valid. Use the Sponsored Guest App to find their active UID.

I added a guest to my course site. Why can't they access it?

You may have inadvertently added an inactive (legacy) guest account. Try searching by UID to ensure you've selected their active guest account.
