Can instructors use Google or other free search tools to investigate possible academic misconduct?

Faculty and GSIs may continue to use any search tools or methods that help resolve questions of academic integrity in their courses. Because Turnitin searches copyrighted and other restricted-access material, the reports it generates will be more comprehensive than what can be found in a Google search. In addition, using Turnitin can help faculty focus on more in-depth assessment of student work, with the knowledge that the step of plagiarism detection has already taken place.
