How to get started with the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client

The Remote Access VPN (Virtual Private Network) service is designed to allow CalNetID authenticated users to connect to the UC Berkeley network from outside of campus, as if they were on campus, and encrypts the information sent to the network.

Before you begin

  1. Verify you are eligible to use the Campus VPN Service by checking Network Service Eligibility Page
  2. Download Cisco AnyConnect Mobility Client from the Software Central Cisco VPN Page

Installation & Configuration

Mac-

  1. Double click the pkg file and authenticate the installer when prompted, this package will install a Cisco Folder in Applications.
  2. Server address ucbvpn.berkeley.edu should already be populated.
  3. Click on the gear icon in lower left corner to make settings adjustments if needed
  4. The default is set to 1-Campus_VPN, use the pulldown menu to select other protocols.
  5. Click Connect, you will be prompted to enter your Calnet ID and passphrase.

 

 

Windows- 

  1. Once downloaded please locate the downloaded .zip file and extract/unzip it.
  2. Once extracted, navigate to the folder that the extraction created and run "Setup.exe", accept terms and authenticate as Admin to install.
  3. In the next pop-up box, Unselect all except "Core & VPN" and click "Install Selected"
  4. Server address ucbvpn.berkeley.edu should already be populated.
  5. Click on the gear icon in lower left corner to make settings adjustments if needed
  6. The default is set to 1-Campus_VPN, if you have been directed to use another protocol, use the pulldown menu to select. Click Connect, you will be prompted to enter your Calnet ID and passphrase.

 

 

 

 

Troubleshooting

If you still receive the VPN requirement page after installing and running the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client, please clear your cache and cookies or use a different web browser.

Please note, only limited support can be provided for the mobile versions the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client.
