For cellular services, you can choose to either disconnect the entire service (in which case the phone number will stop working), or change the billing responsibility from the University to the individual user or another company.
A request must be submitted in the Telecom Catalog using the Disconnect an Existing Voice Service (Delete) form.
- Once you enter the cellular service number, a question will appear asking 'if this a request to disconnect service or change billing responsibility'. Use the drop down to select change.
- A new box will appear. Enter the user or company administrator's email address (it is okay to use a non Berkeley email).
Once submitted and assigned, we will contact the carrier to release the phone number. The user will be notified of the release via email, and will then have 30 days to contact the carrier to assume responsibility for the phone number and either move it to a personal account, or port the number to another carrier. Failure to complete this action will result in the loss of service on day 30.
Note: The catalog is rights driven. If you encounter errors while attempting to submit a request (the service number field will turn red and state that the information entered is invalid), this usually means you do not have rights to do so. In this case, find the person in your department who is familiar with and/or responsible for submitting these types of requests and have them submit the request for you.
