Using a Verified Duo Push for CalNet 2-Step

If a 4-digit code appears on your Duo authentication screen, you are being prompted to complete a Verified Duo Push (also known as number matching). This feature is used to improve campus security for employees and affiliates.

What is a Verified Push?
Occasionally, you will be asked to enter a security code into the Duo Mobile App instead of simply tapping a green checkmark. This ensures that you are the one initiating the login and prevents "push fatigue" attacks.

How to Complete a Verified Duo Push

  1. Login to your CalNet account using your CalNet ID and passphrase.
  2. A four-digit code will appear on your computer or browser login screen.
  3. Open the Duo Mobile App on your smartphone or tablet.
  4. Enter the 4-digit code shown on your login screen into the app.
  5. Tap Verify (or Approve). Once complete, an "Approved" message will display and you will be logged in.

Why am I seeing this?

This "step-up" authentication occurs during high-risk login scenarios to protect your account. Examples include:

  • Accessing CalNet from a new device or a new IP address.
  • Traveling to a new location.
  • Unusual activity, such as multiple failed login attempts in a short window.
