Berkeley-specific Changes

Summer 2020 Security improvements

The Zoom video conferencing platform is being used widely by faculty, students, and staff for a variety of purposes as we continue to do our work remotely. In an effort to ensure all members of our campus community have safe spaces to meet virtually, we are making enhancements to UC Berkeley Zoom accounts to safeguard against further acts of Zoom bombing and other misuse.

These changes are being implemented over the next few weeks in order to minimize disruptions to instruction once fall classes begin. Default meeting settings will be changed to provide more secure and welcoming online environments.

We are changing the default settings in Zoom to:

Report incidents to zoom-misuse@berkeley.edu. These reports will also be forwarded to appropriate campus offices for handling. The University is attentive to reports of Zoom bombing and will take appropriate disciplinary action against registered students or employees who engage in practices which violate the Student Code of Conduct and other campus policies.

04/02/2020Only authenticated users can join meetings

We set up a new authentication profile for the berkeley.edu domain. Per Zoom's security recommendation we removed the 'all zoom users' authentication profile. We still have 'Only authenticated users can join meetings' turned off by default for the Zoom users, but if Zoom users want to enable it for their account, they can now restrict the attendees to only those in the berkeley.edu domain.
