When bIT network services releases a new version of the GlobalProtect client, the Windows and macOS clients will open a pop-up asking the user to perform an upgrade. The pop-up looks like the examples shown below.
A user can select No to postpone the upgrade and will be prompted again the next time they connect. If the user can continue with their work as the client is downloaded in the background. The download can take some time because it is throttled to keep from impacting system performance.
After the download is complete the user will be prompted to install the new software. This will disconnect them from the VPN and require them to log-in again to reconnect.
If users want to upgrade manually they can visit https://vpn.berkeley.edu and download the client software themselves.
