If you find yourself unable to perform the following actions on a Kaltura video that another instructor uploaded:
- Editing the video, either using the Kaltura Video Editor or changing the metadata (title, description, etc.)
- Publishing the video in a different bCourses site or adding more collaborators
- Downloading the video*
This is because you do not have privileged collaborator permissions on the video. For more information on collaborator roles and permissions, see How do I add collaborators or change the owner of my Kaltura media?
For privacy and security purposes, Kaltura support staff do not change collaborator permissions on Kaltura media without the explicit permission of the owner of the media.
You have multiple options for requesting consent to gain privileged permissions on these videos, based on the status of the media owner.
*Note on downloading videos: If you only wish to download the videos and the instructor is still at UC Berkeley, ask them to enable viewer downloads following the instructions in How do I change media entry settings to allow for download by viewers? After they update the video settings, you can follow the directions in the "How to download video or audio files (for viewers)" section in How do I download Kaltura media? to download the video.
If you have a way to contact the media owner and they are still at UC Berkeley
Please ask the media owner to change your collaborator permissions following the instructions in How do I add collaborators or change the owner of my Kaltura media?
If you have a way to contact the media owner and they are no longer at UC Berkeley
Please ask the media owner to send an email to kalturahelp@berkeley.edu. Ask them to include:
- Your name (You being the person requesting privileged permissions on the video)
- Some way to identify the video(s) they want to give you access to (Direct links or course name and video title(s))
- What role they would like to grant you on their videos. See How do I add collaborators or change the owner of my Kaltura media? for more information on what the different roles and permissions are.
If you do not have a way to contact the media owner
Please see the "Access WITHOUT consent" section on the Access to Electronic Communications page of the Office of Ethics website.
You will find a link to a form that you can submit to formally request non-consensual access to the instructor's content.
