UC Berkeley takes the care of its students, faculty and staff in account for all aspects of campus life and the deployment of infrastructure. This being one of the primary concerns, Wireless LAN (wifi) infrastructure has been researched extensively and the operation of such equipment has shown to have no adverse effects on health nor safety.
UC Berkeley Wifi Health and Safety Information:
- UCB has worked closely with the Offices of Environmental Health & Safety & Radiation Safety to ensure that the wireless equipment deployed is:
- Fully compliant with campus safety regulations.
- Poses no known health hazards to the community at large.
- Manufacturers of wifi access pounts must meet stringent government and industry regulations for safety. These include:
- Low output power of wifi access points (far less than that of a cell phone).
- Low exposure to radio frequencies to those in the area of a wifi access point.
- The following health information for wifi networks is also available:
- No adverse health affects have ever been attributed to wifi / wireless technology.
- Visit the World Health Organization website for a comprehensive study on the effects of EMF / wifi signals.
- Visit the Princeton statement on Wifi & Radiation Safety for a comprehensive breakdown on this subject.
