Note: At this time the ChromeOS client will only connect to the Split Tunnel VPN service. We expect this to be corrected in future releases for the GlobalProtect software for ChromeOS.

  1. Launch the WebStore and search for “GlobalProtect”, it is by Palo Alto Networks, then click the + ADD TO CHROME button.

  1. You will be prompted by the WebStore to make sure you wish to install the software, click Add app

  1. Close the web store and open the GlobalProtect application, the icon is a globe with a shield, and you will be presented with the setup page

  1. Enter “vpn.berkeley.edu” (without the quotes) in the portal address field and click Add Connection

  1. You will then be presented with the portal status page

  1. Close that window and open the ChromeOS system tray, you will see a new entry for VPN, click on it

  1. Now click on the vpn.berkeley.edu entry to start the login process

  1. The connection process may take a long time (greater than a minute) to start, once the initial communication is over you will be presented with the CalNet login screen.

  1. One successfully authenticating the device will check with each or the available gateways to verify your access. During this period the device may report that the VPN connection failed.

  1. You can watch the status of the connection by launching the GlobalProtect application

  1. To disconnect click the disconnect button at the bottom or the status page or open the system bar, click on the VPN, then choose disconnect.

At this time if the GlobalProtect client is configured incorrectly, for example with a typo in the name portal name, the only way to fix it is to uninstall it and then reinstall it through the WebStore.
