If you would like to record a short video using a webcam, microphone, and screen capture, you may use Express Capture.

Please note of three limitations of Express Capture:

  1. Express Capture has known bugs when running on iOS (iPads and iPhones). If you are recording a video from an iPad or iPhone, please follow the instructions in How do I record Kaltura videos with an iPad?
  2. Express Capture does not record screen share audio for any browser.
  3. Fullscreen PowerPoint presentations cannot be screen captured when using Firefox (this limitation is not an issue for Chrome and Edge).

Recording Videos with Express Capture

  1. Access My Media through any bCourses site or MediaSpace.
  2. From the Add New dropdown menu (typically at the top right corner), choose Express Capture.

  3. If prompted, allow access to your webcam and microphone. Your computer's default audio and camera will then be registered in Express Capture.
If you wish to change your input source settings, click the gear icon at the top right of the video player.

    • To change the input source device, select the desired input source from the list at the bottom of the window.
    • To disable the camera or microphone, click the blue toggle switch at the top right of the window to turn it gray.
  4. To begin recording your video, click the red button or use the keyboard shortcut (Alt+Shift+R ||⌘+Option+R). A countdown will begin in the middle of the video player; when it disappears, the recording has begun.
  5. Click the white square button in the middle bottom part of the video player next to the timer or use the keyboard shortcut (Alt+Shift+S ||⌘+Option+S) to end the recording.
  6. After the video is recorded, you will see these options in the window under your recording:
