Allow DocuSign recipients to change signing responsibility

Opportunity

When your business process can include flexibility about who signs your document, it can be helpful to allow a designated signer to change the signing responsibility to someone else. An example is a financial aid document you send to the student’s mother for signature, but the student’s father would be an equally appropriate signer.

Overview

Allow recipients to change signing responsibility. When selected the originally designated signer can change the signing responsibility to another person.

If this option is selected, the additional Allow sender to override option is available, which when selected allows senders to override the change signing responsibility setting when sending envelopes. See the Set Advanced Options topic for more information about allowing recipients to change signing responsibility.

Caution:

Process

The Account Administrator must enable this capability; it is enabled for the entire account.

The Account Administrator Experience

See below for the Sender Experience and the Recipient Experience

  1. In DocuSign eSignature Admin, click Signing Settings.
  2. Under the Recipients section, choose “Allow recipients to change signing responsibility”

Note: Screengrabs are taken when the browser window is full-size.

Narrowing the browser window might change what you see.

The Sender Experience

In the Advanced Options dialog, modify the default settings. The available settings are described in detail below.

Note: The advanced options you select apply to all recipients; you cannot specify advanced options for a single recipient.

The Recipient Experience

When a recipient receives the document, they select the Assign to Someone Else option in the OTHER ACTIONS menu. The recipient provides the new signer's contact information, and the document is reassigned. In the document, field tags for the original recipient are reassigned to the new signer. The new signer receives a signing notification, which includes a message from the original signer if they opted to include one. The sender receives a change in signer notification. The original signer is added as a carbon copy recipient.

Once the document completes, the Certificate of Completion reflects the details of the signing event. The new signer is shown in the Signer Events section, and the original recipient is listed under Carbon Copy Events.
