Why should I update?

Zoom regularly provides new versions of the Zoom desktop client (app) and mobile app to release new features and fix bugs. If you have never downloaded the desktop or mobile versions before, you can do so from here: https://berkeley.zoom.us/download

Once the Zoom app is downloaded to your device, we recommend that update regularly so you can take advantage of new features, security enhancements, and bug fixes. If you do not know which version of Zoom you are running, you can check which version you're currently running.

Campus managed machines

If you are using a campus managed machine that runs Berkeley Desktop (Self Service or BigFix), in which you do not have administrator privileges, you can take advantage of the self-service install and update options available.

Windows (BigFix)

1. Log in to your computer and open Self Service by clicking the BigFix icon in your taskbar. BigFix is the blue and white “b” icon in the taskbar.

2. On the Offers tab, look for “Zoom Application Upgrade”. You can also enter “Zoom” in the search field

3. Read the Offer’s description and be sure to end any active Zoom meetings at this time. The upgrade will restart Zoom, which will automatically close all Zoom sessions.

4. Click the Accept button to start the upgrade. The upgrade takes a couple of minutes and will display a progress bar when Zoom gets updated.

5. When the upgrade has successfully completed, Zoom will re-open with the latest version.

Macs (Self Service)

1. Log in to your computer and open Self Service from your Applications folder or search for Self Service

2. In the Berkeley Desktop Software category, find the offer called “Zoom”

3. It is recommended but not necessary to exit any active Zoom meetings at this time. Click “Install” on the Zoom offer to install or upgrade your Zoom app.

4. If you are upgrading your Zoom app and it was open at the time, then you may get a prompt that a new version of Zoom is available. You can choose to Restart Zoom now or “Remind Me Later”

5. When the install or upgrade has successfully completed, Zoom will open with the latest version.

Personally owned/non-managed devices

If you own your own device, or have administrator privileges, you can update directly from the Zoom desktop or mobile app.

  1. Sign in to Zoom desktop client (app).
  2. Use Sign In with SSO option, enter Berkeley as the company domain, then enter CalNet credentials

  3. Click your profile picture (or name icon) in the upper right corner then click Check for Updates.

  4. Zoom will let you know if there is an update available. Click “Install” if available.

  5. If you are already on the most up to date version, Zoom will let you know:
