You have two options to provide a link to a Kaltura Media item in bCourses.

Note: There is no reliable way to provide a direct link to a Kaltura Media Page in bCourses. (If you try to copy the URL that starts with "https://kaf.berkeley.edu/" it may appear to work but students will not reliably be able to use this URL to get to your video.) This limitation is due to a variety of privacy and copyright concerns combined with how Kaltura works internally. Direct links may be possible in the future as these limitations are addressed. Please use one of the methods below to share your media.

Option 1: Follow one of the bCourses Kaltura sharing methods

Please see How do I share media in Kaltura within bCourses? to provide a link that will allow members of your bCourses site to get to a page on which they can play an individual Kaltura video.

Option 2: Share a MediaSpace link

You can provide a direct link to Kaltura media if you add it to a MediaSpace channel with Restricted (UC Berkeley members only) or Private (added members only) privacy settings. Please note that this link will direct the user away from your bCourses site to view the video on the MediaSpace website.

  1. Please refer to How do I create a channel and add members in MediaSpace? to create a MediaSpace channel with your desired settings. If you made a private channel, add users to the channel.
    • Restricted (Any UC Berkeley member with CalNet)
    • Private (Only added UC Berkeley users)
  2. Add your Kaltura media to the channel following the instructions in How to do I add media to a channel in MediaSpace?
  3. After you have added the media, go to the media's page by clicking on it in your channel. You can copy this url and place it anywhere on bCourses, and users will be able to access it after logging in with CalNet.
