How to delete media files from My Media

Only media Owners can delete media from My Media. (For your Course Capture videos, the Course Capture system is the Owner; you are a Co-Editor. You can request that the Course Capture service delete any of your Course Capture videos: please send email to coursecapture@berkeley.edu). Media that you delete from your My Media is permanently deleted and cannot be restored.

Tip: If immediate and complete deletion is critical, a workaround (even if you are only Co-Editor or if you are unable to delete because Kaltura thinks your media is published), is to use the Kaltura Editor to trim out all but a very small portion of the content in your video and Save (do not use Save a Copy); see How do I use the Kaltura video editor?

Also note that media cannot be deleted from My Media if it is published. Media is published if the word "Published" appears next to the media in green in My Media.

To unpublish media that is published in a Media Gallery

To unpublish media that is published "In Context"  (i.e. embedded in bCourses content, such as a Page)

  1. Go to the Media page (from My Media or Media Gallery), and from the Actions dropdown menu, choose Edit.
  2. Select the Publish tab.
  3. Change publishing status to Private.
Edit page UI, with Publish tab selected, and Publishing Status set to "Private"
  4. Immediately follow the next set of instructions to delete the Media. (If you don't do this immediately, as soon as somebody goes to the page in bCourses where the media is embedded, the Publishing Status of the video will revert to Published, and you will be unable to complete the deletion steps.)

If you have any issues with the above, please contact kalturahelp@berkeley.edu; we can make a quick edit in our administrative interface so that the system permanently records your media as Private.
