Assignments include Quizzes, graded Discussions, and online submissions (i.e. files, images, text, URLs, etc.). Assignments can be used to challenge students' understanding and help assess competency by using a variety of media. The Assignments page shows students all of the Assignments that will be expected of them and how many points each is worth.
TIP: If you'd like to submit a test assignment (and/or take a test quiz) to check your browser before submitting a real assignment or quiz for your courses, you can enroll in the Test Site for Submitting Assignments and Quizzes.
Confetti for on-time submissions: When submitting an assignment on time (before the due date), you will see a "confetti celebration." If you would prefer not to see this animation, it can be turned off following these steps: How do I manage confetti animations in Canvas as a student?
Grades can serve as a communication tool between students and instructors and allow instructors to track the progress of students. The Grades page in a course displays all current grades for all course assignments. You can also view scoring details, comments, and rubrics. If your instructor is using multiple grading periods, you can also filter grades by grading period.
The Files area of Canvas can house course files, assignments, syllabi, readings, or other documents, as well as profile pictures and user-specific files. Note that your instructors can lock folders and files so they can only be viewed by direct links or only unlock on a specific date — or hide files from student view completely.
You can view your personal user files in your account Files area. User files include profile pictures, uploaded assignment submissions, and other files uploaded to your personal Canvas file storage area.
