What is Socreg?

Overview

Socreg is a self-service asset registration portal developed to help campus departments and their Security Contacts maintain the registration of network assets and Protected Data to meet University policy requirements.

Policy Requirements

The Departmental Security Contact Policy requires that campus departments designate a Security Contact to receive security email notifications and alerts for their networked devices. Socreg is used by Unit Security Contacts—groups of authorized members who register IT Resources and receive security notices regarding those resources.

Portal Functions

Unit Security Contacts use the portal to maintain their registration information, including:

• Security Contact membership
• Registration of Cloud Accounts (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Subnet and IP Address space
• Devices (required for the Campus DHCP service for wired connections)
• Protected Data Applications for which the Security Contact is responsible

Access and VPN Requirements

Users accessing the portal from an off-campus IP address, or while connected to the CalVisitor Wi-Fi network, must use the campus VPN to connect.
