A knowledge base article about How Do I Change My CalNet ID? Are there any impacts? provided by the UC Berkeley IT Service Hub - Knowledge Portal
You can change your CalNet ID using the tool at: https://bpr.calnet.berkeley.edu/account-manager/person/changeCalnetId.
Please be aware that you are only allowed to change your ID one time, so we strongly advise you select something you intend to keep for the rest of your time with UC Berkeley. Note: Changing your CalNet ID does not impact your student and/or employee ID number.
Changes to your CalNet ID may break access to campus services and offerings. When you change your CalNet ID, you change your username for systems that use CalNet ID as an identifier. If you experience trouble accessing campus services after changing your CalNet ID, you will need to contact the service provider or your IT support staff, directly, to ensure all your existing permissions are transferred to your new username.
CalNet 2-Step
If you are enrolled in 2-Step, you will need to re-enroll your devices after changing your CalNet ID. See How to use CalNet 2-Step for instructions.
bConnected
If you already have a bMail address, your bMail address will be changed to match your CalNet ID. If you do not have a bMail address, one will be created for you. See https://bconnected.berkeley.edu/collaboration-services/welcome-uc-berkeley for details.
Active Directory
Departments who use the campus Active Directory service (network logon) also rely on CalNet ID as workstation login, and the CalNet ID is often tied to internal permissions set via AD security groups. Campus OU Administrators need to be ready to assist those users whose AD permissions need to be re-mapped for file sharing as a result of a CalNet ID change.
Some examples of applications that might be affected include:
If you experience trouble after changing your CalNet ID, contact the service provider directly. You can also contact the campus help desk by emailing itcshelp@berkeley.edu or creating a ticket online.
