If you are using Zoom to verify someone's identity remotely, you must ensure your settings are secure. The following configurations align your account with campus privacy protections. Do not use default Zoom settings for identity verification, and do not change these settings once implemented.
AI Companions (including Zoom's built-in tools and third-party apps like Otter.ai) must be turned OFF during identity verification sessions.
Sign in to the UC Berkeley Zoom Web Portal and navigate to Settings to apply the following:
AI Companion Tab
- Set all AI Companion features to OFF.
- Do not enable separate AI companions (e.g., Otter.ai).
General Tab
- Data & Storage: Set to United States only.
- Feedback to Zoom: OFF.
- Hide potentially sensitive information on mobile task switcher: ON.
Meeting Tab
Security
- Waiting Room: ON (Set to "Everyone").
- Only authenticated meeting participants can join: ON (Option: "Any Zoom user").
- Allow Zoom Rooms to become host: OFF.
- Only authenticated users can join from Web client: ON.
- Allow use of end-to-end encryption (E2EE): ON.
- Default encryption type: Set to Enhanced encryption.
Schedule Meeting
- Allow participants to join before host: OFF.
In Meeting (Basic)
- Meeting chat: ON (Set to "Allow users to save chats: Host and co-hosts only").
- Sound notification when someone joins/leaves: ON (Set to "Host and co-hosts only").
- Send files via meeting chat: OFF.
- Screen sharing: ON.
- Join different meetings simultaneously on desktop: OFF.
- Allow removed participants to rejoin: OFF.
In Meeting (Advanced)
- Automated captions: ON.
- Full transcript: OFF.
- Save captions: OFF.
- Language Interpretation: ON.
- Allow livestreaming of meetings: OFF.
- Enable "Stop incoming video" feature: ON.
Recording Tab
- Record to computer files: OFF.
- Cloud recording: OFF.
- Automatic recording: OFF.
- Recording disclaimer: ON (Show to all participants).
- Play voice prompt for recording: ON (All participants).
- Ask host to confirm before starting a recording: CHECKED.
Whiteboard
- Set all Whiteboard features to OFF.
