A knowledge base article about Windows 10 update breaks Kofax VRS Elite license on Canon scanner machines provided by the UC Berkeley IT Service Hub - Knowledge Portal

Background

We have found that the Windows 10 update breaks Kofax VRS Elite license. This occurs with scanning workstations that are connected to Canon scanners. This update negatively affects the scanner driver installed on the scanning machine which is used to scan to Perceptive Content. When an end user tries to scan the driver no longer works fine on the machine since the windows installer message "Preparing to install" appears in two different instances:

a) Perceptive Content. When trying to scan
b) Kofax VRS Test Console. When trying to select the respective scanner to test the scan

Resolution

According to Kofax support this is a known issue. To fix this:

  1. Download Kofax OEM driver from the Canon website for the specific machine model, in some cases the url has been:  https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/scanners/document-scanner/imageformula-dr-g1130?tab=drivers_downloads
  2. Have a CSS-IT local admin install the correct driver
  3. In case of questions contact Kofax support through their website
