Wireless devices have multiple methods of discovering other devices on a wireless network. The two most popular manufacturers use AirPlay and AirPrint (Apple macOS/iOS), mDNS (multicast DNS) and Wi-Fi Aware (Google Android/ChromeOS). 

Discovery makes it as easy to print to a wireless printers, access wi-fi scanners, or controll Internet of Things devices like smart lightbulbs as it is a home.

Using Wi-Fi Device Discovery

There is no specific "discovery" registration steps users must perform, all eduroam accounts and Berkeley-IoT devices are supported automatically.

Example: clicking on the cast button in YouTube music will let you discovery Google speakers and assistants. 

NOTE: Registering a device with SocReg will not make it discoverable. SocReg is primarily for wired devices, the GetOnline service and Berkeley-IoT are for wireless devices.

You can check the documentation for your device to see if it uses a discovery protocol compatible with the UC Berkeley wireless networks. The following are known to work:
