Why did I need a cable? Why can't I use the data jacks that are there on the wall?

A new cable is needed (voice or data jack) when service is requested and there are no existing jacks available in the immediate area. Not all jacks found in rooms are voice or internet capable.
The cable runs from the jack to our nearest wiring closet (TR - Telecommunications Room), where it is connected to our voice or data electronics.  A voice jack may not be used for data and a data jack may not be used for voice.

Voice jacks used for telephones have –V at the end of the label. For the jack in this picture the upper left jack (113-N150-004-D) is for a data network connection and both 113-N150-005-V and 113-N150-006-V are for telephones.
