A knowledge base article about What is the difference between GitHub@Berkeley and Github.com? provided by the UC Berkeley IT Service Hub - Knowledge Portal
GitHub@Berkeley is UC Berkeley’s on-premise version of GitHub Enterprise, managed by Information Services & Technology (IST). UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff are eligible to create an unlimited number repositories, either private or public – within the institution. Instructors or project teams with the need for group-owned repositories may request an “Organization” for collaborative purposes.
This service includes the ability for publishing organization, personal, or project websites through GitHub pages. Pages are inherently public and should only be used for Level 0 data.
Github.com is well suited for truly open source projects, with the desire to share with the public outside of UC Berkeley.
Additional information can be found on the GitHub@Berkeley Information Page.
