A knowledge base article about User reports unable to print to INow Printer after Windows upgrade or machine reimaged provided by the UC Berkeley IT Service Hub - Knowledge Portal
Background
Sometimes it is necessary to upgrade Windows or re-image users' machines that have Perceptive Content (formerly ImageNow) installed. End users personalize their Perceptive Content settings and it is important to retain their settings when their machine is upgraded or re-imaged. One of their settings is printing to INow printer, which is erased after an upgrade or when the machine is re-imaged, which renders users unable to print, this in turn causes additional tickets.
Solution
To avoid losing the INow printer settings on users machines, please follow this procedure below before the actual upgrade or re-image occurs.
Capture Profiles, i.e. INow Printer settings (inscan.xml file)
1. Before upgrading or re-imaging. Locate and copy the inscan.xml file that should be found under users\username\appdata\roaming\microsoft windows or similar path. In case the path is different and you find several of these files, please copy the latest one
2. Save this file (inscan.xml file) in a place where it is protected from deletion. FYI, this file contains the settings for the system on how the user captures documents, one of this settings is precisely INow printer.
Note that only scanner machines include two xml files, inscan and indevice
3. After the upgrade or reimaging of the machine. Paste the saved file onto the respective directory on the user's machine
