A knowledge base article about Tips for using DocuSign Conditional Fields provided by the UC Berkeley IT Service Hub - Knowledge Portal
Opportunity
Conditional fields allow you to create documents that support a conditional workflow. Conditional fields only appear to the recipient when a specified condition is met. You can hide conditional fields until the recipient makes an entry in your documents that triggers the fields to show, such as selecting a dropdown option or marking a checkbox. This provides a clearer user experience.
Highlights and Tips
- You can use the following field types as trigger fields for a conditional field workflow
- Checkbox
- Radio button
- Dropdown
- Text
- Other field types, such as formula fields, cannot be trigger fields though they can be conditional fields (i.e. a field that appears once the trigger field condition has been met)
- Conditional fields must be assigned to the same recipient as the trigger field
- You should create meaningful Data Labels for conditional fields so you can more easily create the conditional workflow rule.
- This is a good idea to do for all fields.
- Conditional fields have a dash-box around them in the Edit view
- Do not include conditional content in source document if you don’t want it visible even without the condition being metInstead create that content as read only fields in DocuSign and include them as part of the conditional field rule
