Testing CalGroups - Google Sync

A knowledge base article about Testing CalGroups - Google Sync provided by the UC Berkeley IT Service Hub - Knowledge Portal

Instructions for Testing

Note: Allow up to 15 minutes for changes to be reflected in Google.

Go to calgroups.berkeley.edu and navigate to your Org folder, where you’ll be creating your groups:

Berkeley / Organizations / (your Org folder)

To Do:

  1. Create a group and add members. Set Google provisioning to this group by doing the following:

    1. Click on the “More actions” button on the top right and select “Edit Provisioning Info”, which will call up the provisioning form.

    2. On the form, select “yes” to “Sync to bConnected Google Groups”.

    3. Click “Update”

  2. Add more members in CalGroups and see it reflected in Google.  The change occurs at the top of the minute, so expect a little delay.

  3. Remove members in CalGroups and see it reflected in Google.

  4. Set Google provisioning to no. The group should disappear from Google.

  5. Set the Google provision to yes.  The group should reappear in Google.

  6. Delete your group in CalGroups. This should delete the group and all aspects of it in Google.

  7. Right now, you can only sync groups of 350 members or less. Put another way, any update that would result in the total group membership being greater than 350, will fail. For example, if you already have a group that’s synced with 100 members and then added another 300, NONE of the 300 members you added will be synced. The original members will still be synced however.  So, to test this:

    1. Create a new group with 100 members in CalGroups and then sync to Google. See this reflected in Google.

    2. Add another 300 members to your group in CalGroups. Whatever members were already provisioned should remain, but new members will not be.

  8. Also fun is adding people as an admin in the Privileges tab.  They too show up as Managers of the group.

    1. Add a member to the group, wait until they appear as Member.

    2. Add the same person to the admin privilege.

    3. Watch as their Google role becomes “manager”
