UC Berkeley’s instance of G Suite for Education (formerly Google Apps for Education) is a suite of collaboration and productivity applications, hosted by Google Inc. on behalf of UC Berkeley. G Suite for Education is offered in accordance with a specially negotiated end-user license agreement, between UC Berkeley, the University of California Office of the President, and Google. This agreement is designed to protect the privacy and security of information owned by UC Berkeley G Suite for Education account holders, guaranteeing that Google will not access or re-use information stored in these applications for its own commercial purposes.

Google Policies
Anyone utilizing a UC Berkeley G Suite for Education account must acknowledge that Google can terminate their account if they fail to abide by Google’s Terms of Service. In all cases, Google’s privacy policies govern usage.
Privacy & Security
When it comes to privacy and security, protecting the confidentiality and integrity of Berkeley campus data is everyone’s responsibility. UC Berkeley expects all users to employ reasonable and appropriate safeguards concerning the information they transmit and store utilizing G Suite for Education. Services Covered
Under the UCOP negotiated agreement, Google provides a greater level of protection for your data in the core apps than they do for regular consumers. These protections comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the US-EU Safe Harbor agreement, which helps ensure that data protection compliance meets European Union standards for educational institutions.

Additional consumer apps (e.g. YouTube, Blogger) are available for users, but are governed by a contract between the user and Google. To use Consumer Apps with a UC Berkeley account, the user will need to agree to Google’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
