IST Telecom Policy on Extensions Related to e911

E911 requirements restrict us from allowing extensions in more than one location.  This is especially true if it is an off premise extension (OPX ); this is not allowed because emergency location information is associated with the telephone number.

Our recommendation to clients who may want to be reached at different locations is to upgrade their campus voicemail to UM (unified messaging).  This allows them to use the "Find-Me, Follow-Me" feature.  When the phone rings at their desk then forwarded to the CalVoicemail System, because you have provided us with another location or cell phone number to send the calls to, the system automatically rings the different numbers provided until the call is answered.  If there is no answer from the phone numbers provided in the system, the call goes to voicemail.
