Knowledge Base: Advanced Searches

A knowledge base article about Knowledge Base: Advanced Searches provided by the UC Berkeley IT Service Hub - Knowledge Portal

Knowledge searches allows users to search the knowledge base for specific articles or topics and then filter, organize, and refine search results using Advanced Search.

Use the advanced search options to filter results by topic:

You can also use the advanced search option to expand the search to sources other than the knowledge base, such as the ServiceNow Wiki or Google. By default, these options appear when you click the Advanced search link beside the knowledge search field.

The advanced search sources are shown below:

Wildcard Searches

To perform a multiple character wildcard search, use the asterisk (*) symbol.

To perform a single character wildcard search, use the percent sign (%) symbol. You can use wildcard characters anywhere in a search term.

Phrase Searches

Use quotation marks to search for a phrase with multiple terms. The search engine finds only matches that contain the exact words in the exact order you specify, ignoring "stop" words (i.e. common words that are excluded from searches) and punctuation. For example, the following searches return the same results because the stop word a is ignored:

"email password"

"email a password"

Wildcards do not work within quoted phrases; they are ignored as punctuation.
