Hostmaster Services

The campus Hostmaster handles the Domain Name System (DNS) for Berkeley.EDU and its subdomains. Hostmaster also assists in the assignment of Fixed DHCP addresses in some circumstances. Hostmaster Services may also include these activities: 

• Care and feeding of nameservers (both hardware and software),
• Registering IP addresses and hostnames for new network connections,
• Coordination of network connection moves,
• Changing assigned hostnames,
• Adding aliases and mail-forwarding records to existing hostnames,
• Creation of subdomains,
• Coordination with departmental hostmasters who have been delegated authority for their own (departmental) subdomains.

To request Hostmaster services, send email to: hostmaster@Berkeley.EDU with details of your request.  You may also complete the Hostmaster Service form in the Service Catalog, and enter details of your request in the Comments box.

COST:  There is no charge for this service.

If you are submitting a data network connection request, you do not need to submit a separate Hostmaster request for Hostmaster Services.
