The Campus DNS administrators handle the Domain Name System (DNS) for berkeley.edu and its subdomains. DNS admins also assist in the assignment of Fixed DHCP addresses under certain circumstances. DNS Services may also include these activities:
If you are requesting a new data network connection, you will be provided a dynamic IP address and hostname. Dynamic IP's are sufficient for most workstations and devices; a fixed DHCP address can be requested if you are planning to connect a host, such as a printer or server. Use the 'Connect to Data Network' form in the TelCat catalog to request new data network connections.
Moving or Disconnecting network connections
If you are planning to move or disconnect a data network connection, use the 'Move/Modify Existing Data Network Service' or 'Disconnect/Delete Existing Data Network Service' service request form. You can specify any IP/Hostname changes on the request form.

All questions about hostnames, IP addresses and the name servers may be emailed to dns@berkeley.edu or you may use the 'DNS Service' form in the TelCat catalog to open a request. These may include requests to rename a host, add an alias to an existing hostname, add a mail forwarding record for a host, or requests for the hostname and IP address previously assigned to a existing network connection.
Requests for DNS changes may be processed at any time, though most are processed during standard business hours. New names/configurations are usually available as soon as they are made. Changes to existing host names and zones can take up to four hours to update across the Internet.
