Shared Access Permissions need to be authorized to schedule Zoom meetings in bCal

A knowledge base article about Shared Access Permissions need to be authorized to schedule Zoom meetings in bCal provided by the UC Berkeley IT Service Hub - Knowledge Portal

Zoom recently added a new permission requirement for add-ons that use shared access permissions.  If you have scheduling privileges for another person’s calendar, you may run into an error when trying to schedule or modify a meeting using the Zoom add-on for Google Calendar. The change will require you to authorize the add-on (app) before you can continue to use it.

The error may say something like:

Click here to visit Zoom Marketplace and enable "Allow this app to use my shared access permissions"for the Google Workspace app from the Shared Access Permissions column. After enabling, remove this item by clicking "✕" and try again.

To resolve this issue, please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to https://marketplace.zoom.us/
  2. Click the "Sign in" button at the top
  3. Click the "SSO" button (key icon)
  4. Enter "berkeley" as your company domain
  5. If necessary, sign in with your CalNet credentials
  6. Click the "Manage" button at the top right
  7. On the left side menu, select "Added Apps"
  8. For any apps that are listed as Unauthorized, including Google Workspace:
    1. Click the blue "update" link under “Not Authorized”
    2. Enable the check box next to "Allow this app to use my shared access permissions"
    3. Click "Authorize"
    4. Once complete, “Not Authorized” will change to “Authorized”

Alternatively, you can try doing this from within Google Calendar:

  1. Open the Zoom for G Suite sidebar on the Google Calendar page (small Zoom icon on the right side of the screen)
  2. Click the 3 vertical dots in the right corner of the sidebar and select "Sign Out"
  3. Click "Sign In" in the sidebar
  4. A pop-up will likely appear to re-authorize the app
    1. Check the box next to the sentence "Allow this App to access my shared permissions"
  5. Complete the re-authorization process and attempt to schedule again
