What is happening?
The currently installed Self Service Classic app on macOS devices that are enrolled in Jamf will get updated to the new Self Service+ (Plus) app starting on March 24, 2026 at 10am PST.
Why are we updating Self Service to the new Self Service+ (Plus) app?
Jamf has announced that they will be deprecating the currently installed Self Service Classic app for macOS 13 and later by March 31, 2026. To ensure continuity, we must update to the Self Service+ (Plus) app on our campus Macs running macOS 13 and later. The update will include both Berkeley Desktop Macs and unmanaged Macs that have been enrolled in Jamf for the Berkeley Security Software.
For reference, Jamf Pro Release Notes 11.24.0 from January 19, 2026 includes Self Service Classic in the Deprecations and Removals section:
“Self Service classic for macOS support
Self Service+ will eventually replace Self Service classic, and support for Self Service classic for macOS will end in March 2026.”
As a Mac user, what do I have to do?
Nothing! The update to Self Service+ will be centrally deployed starting on March 24, 2026 at 10am PST. Your Mac will silently receive the update when it is online and checks in to the campus Jamf server. While the update is silent, your Mac will receive a new Self Service+ icon in your menu bar. Please see the chart below to see the new icon.
What are the biggest differences between Self Service Classic and Self Service+?
The biggest differences between Self Service Classic and Plus after the update are a new interface and a new menu bar icon. Please see the following table to compare the new icon and interface between Classic and Plus.
