Searches: Tips for Forms

A knowledge base article about Searches: Tips for Forms provided by the UC Berkeley IT Service Hub - Knowledge Portal

This article describes how to find a specific name or service and how to use wildcards for searches.

Using the Lookup Magnifying Glass

Many fields on Telecom Catalog forms have a magnifying glass icon next to them. Clicking on the icon brings up a list of appropriate choices, for example, a list of departments for which you can order. Clicking on a selection returns to the form with the selection populated in the field.

Before you click on the magnifying glass, be sure to remove the search values you entered into the field first.  When you use the magnifying glass icon to get an entry for a field you will see a search box that has two types of search options: Go to (selected field) and Search (for text).

Go To

Go to:  searches a selected field (for instance, Last Name). Results are sorted alphabetically/numerically according to the information you entered in the Search box, e.g. 'Smith'

Search (for text)

Search (for text): searches in any field that contains text entered in the Search box, for example, 'Smith'.

Wildcards

Use wildcards to further refine your list searches.
