Managing SPA-Affiliated bMail Accounts

A knowledge base article about Managing SPA-Affiliated bMail Accounts provided by the UC Berkeley IT Service Hub - Knowledge Portal

Managing SPA-Affiliated bMail Accounts

Special Purpose Accounts (SPAs) are intended for collaboration and sharing. SPAs, their contents, data, and the shared email account are owned by the institution and the primary department of the employee who creates the SPA. If you have not yet created the SPA, please see: How to Create a SPA (KB0015438).

A SPA member can allow other campus users to access a SPA-affiliated email account by making them Direct Members (KB0015444) of the SPA or by delegating access via bMail.

CRITICAL REQUIREMENT: You cannot manage a bMail account for your SPA if you are logged in as yourself. You must log out of your browser or open an Incognito or Private window to perform these actions.

How to Create a SPA-Affiliated bMail Account

  1. Log out of your browser or open an incognito or private window.
  2. Go to https://bconnected.berkeley.edu/.
  3. Under the "Getting Started" menu at the top right, select Create Accounts and Lists.
  4. When prompted, enter your CalNet ID in one of the following formats:
    • Option A: +yourcalnetid (Your personal ID with a plus symbol in front)
    • Option B: spa-spaname+yourcalnetid
  5. Enter your personal CalNet passphrase and click Sign In.
  6. If you used Option A, select the name of your new SPA account from the drop-down menu and click Sign In As.
  7. Read the UC Berkeley email policy, check the agreement box, and click Create bConnected Google Account.

For additional assistance, you may watch the How to set up Gmail delegation video or review the bMail Delegated Access Guide (KB0010479).

  4. Click on the Settings (gear) icon in the upper right corner and select See all settings.
  5. Click on the Accounts tab and scroll down to Grant access to your account.
  6. Click the Add another account link.
