The Playlist Tab

Your course site’s Media Gallery may or may not have a playlist tab. If your instructor has created playlists, the Playlists Tab will be the default page when you open the Media Gallery.

How to watch a playlist from the beginning

To watch a playlist from the beginning, select the playlist’s title (above the video thumbnails).

The thumbnails on this main page DO NOT include all of the videos in the playlist. To scroll through the playlist from this page, hover your pointer over the right or left edge of the playlist thumbnail lists and an arrow icon will appear which you can select to scroll.

Accessing videos from Modules

Your instructor may incorporate videos into modules either by embedding them in a page or directly embedding them.

The video may appear in either form in the module hierarchy as shown below.

To watch the video, select on the item in the module hierarchy or proceed through the module to reach it.  If the video is embedded in a page, you might want to enlarge it, see “Viewing a video” below for instructions.

Using the video player

If you are used to using the older v2 player, you may find it useful to review Kaltura’s v7 Comparison Tool page (which compares the v2 player to the v7 Player). The following functionality, however, is not currently available:  Hotspots, Quizzes, Share button, Download button

Switching streams and split-screen

If the video you are watching is a dual stream video—most of the time, this means that there is a webcam and a screen capture recording in the same video—you can switch which stream fills the video player and which is shown in a smaller window on top, or you can switch so the two streams appear side-by-side.

To switch which stream appears larger, click the button titled "Switch to secondary stream" or "Switch to primary stream" (this button is the one with two arrows pointing in opposite directions, located in the upper right of the smaller stream).

To minimize the smaller stream, select the “Hide” button above the secondary stream and place your cursor outside of the video frame. After a short delay, the secondary stream will disappear but reappear when you place your cursor back in the video frame.

To use chapters

Chapters are like bookmarks in a Kaltura video that allow viewers to jump to different sections of your video from a menu in the video player. Please note that not all videos have chapters; instructors generally have to add chapters to their videos.

If a video has chapters, they will be listed when you select Navigation (magnifying glass icon) in the upper right of the player window.

To jump to a certain chapter, select the corresponding row in the list of chapters.

To search chapters by a phrase or word, type it in the Search box above the list of chapters.

Viewing a video in a Playlist

Once you select a Playlist title or any video from within the Playlist Tab, the videos in the playlist will autoplay in order.

Select the forward and backwards button of the corresponding video thumbnail to go to a different video in the playlist.
