Searching through videos the Media Gallery

While studying, there may be concepts you did not grasp or lectures you missed. It is helpful to make a list of these lecture titles or concepts and use them as keywords to search for relevant videos in your course Media Gallery. See How do I search through the Media Gallery? to learn how to search for relevant videos in the Media Gallery.

Using the video player for studying

Closed Captions

You can turn on video captions by clicking the Enable Captions button (small CC button in the bottom right corner). This may be useful if you cannot listen to video audio. Captions can also improve one’s ability to retain and recall information from videos.

Adjust Video Speed

You can also adjust the video speed if you wish to watch a video more quickly or slowly. (Research has shown watching a lecture twice at double speed can benefit learning better than watching it once at normal speed.

To adjust the speed, select the gear icon in the lower right of the video player, then select your desired speed from the Speed menu.

Using a video transcript

You may also search through a video transcript to find specific timestamps related to keywords. This feature is useful for finding more specific sections within a lecture. Please see How do I use the transcript of a Kaltura video? to learn how to use the transcript of a Kaltura video.

Playlists

Watching playlists on certain topics is also a good way to brush up on concepts you have not grasped yet. To view course playlists your instructor has created, click the Playlists tab at the top of the course Media Gallery.

If you do not see the Playlists tab at the top of the course Media Gallery, your instructor has not created any playlists, so you won’t be able to use this feature.

How to watch a playlist from the beginning

To watch a playlist from the beginning, click the playlist’s title (above the video thumbnails).

The thumbnails on this main page DO NOT include all of the videos in the playlist. To scroll through the playlist from this page, hover your pointer over the right or left edge of the playlist thumbnail lists and an arrow icon will appear which you can click on to scroll.

Downloading Kaltura Videos

If you have unreliable access to the internet, you may be able to download course lectures, demonstrations, or other instructional videos. Please see How do I download Kaltura media?

If your instructor has not enabled downloads, you can try asking them to and provide them with a link to How can I allow viewers to download my Kaltura media?

Please note that you will not be able to use the interactive Kaltura features described above on downloaded media.
