How can I delete media from My Media?

How to delete media files from My Media

Only media Owners can delete media from My Media. (For your Course Capture videos, the Course Capture system is the Owner; you are a Co-Editor. You can request that the Course Capture service delete any of your Course Capture videos: please use our Course Capture Deletion Request form, which includes options for both individual and bulk deletion. Alternatively, as a Co-Editor you can use the Kaltura editor to trim out any portion of any Course Capture videos; see How do I use the Kaltura video editor?).

Note that as of 11/26/25, when you delete media it will first go into a Recycle Bin, where it is restorable for 30 days, but from where you can also take steps to immediately permanently delete it. (This is all documented below.) Also, as of 11/26/25, you are able to delete media even if it is published; previously, if media was embedded anywhere you could not do this.)

How delete an individual media item from your My Media

  1. Go to your My Media in the global navigation (vertical navigation bar on the left) of bCourses or MediaSpace.
  2. Click on the trashcan icon to the right of the title of the media in question.

Alternatively, click on the media's title and from the Actions dropdown menu choose Delete.
Screenshot of the Actions dropdown menu with the delete option highlighted.
A "Move to Recycle bin" window appears.
Dialog "Move to Recycle bin" asking to confirm deletion. Two buttons: "Cancel" and "Delete".
  3. Select Delete to remove the media.

The media will no longer be in your My Media. If it was published to any Media Galleries, it will no longer be visible in those Media Galleries. If it was embedded anywhere, the page will show an Access Denied message where the media was embedded.

But the media will not be permanently deleted for another 30 days. To permanently delete it *now*, you must empty it from your Recycle Bin. (See "How to permanently delete media that is in your Recycle Bin" below.)

How to delete multiple media items from your My Media

  1. Select the checkmarks to the left of the titles of the items you want to delete.
  2. From the Actions menu, select Delete.
A "Move to Recycle bin" window appears.
Dialog "Move to Recycle bin" asks to confirm to move to recycle bin. Buttons "Cancel" and "Delete"
  3. Select Delete to confirm that you want to delete the items.
The media will no longer be in your My Media.
If it was published to any Media Galleries, it will no longer be visible in those Media Galleries. If it was embedded anywhere, the page will show an Access Denied message where the media was embedded.
The media, however, will not be permanently deleted for another 30 days. To permanently delete it *now*, you must empty it from your Recycle Bin. (See below)
