Interpreting Department Summary Reports

Department Summary Reports are generated based on university-wide and department-wide question responses. Department Summary Reports are made available through the evaluation system, and can be downloaded in the form of Excel Spreadsheet. Please be noted that Faculty and GSI responses will be separated.

 

Below is a guide on interpreting the results of your Department Summary report, for every field.

 

Columns A through C

(Course Specification)

Column A: Course & Section Name

Column B: Department Name

Column C: Evaluation Type (F or G) F stands for Faculty member, and G stands for Graduate Student Instructor.

 

Columns D through E

(Instructor Specification)

Column D: First name of Instructor

Column E: Last name of Instructor

 

Columns F through H

(Responses)

Column F: Invited Count The number of students to which the evaluations were sent out to

Column G: Respondent Count The number of students who responded to the evaluations

Column H: Response Ratio The ratio of Respondent Count to Invited Count, represented as a percentage.

 

Columns I through K

(Faculty Statistics)

Column I: Instructor (Faculty) Mean

The value in this column represents the average value selected by the respondents. NRP will appear if the row does not apply for faculty members.

Column J: Instructor (Faculty) Median

The value in this column represents the value at the 50th percentile of all responses, or the “middle value.” The row is left blank if pertaining to a GSI.
